No-Poo Shampoo

My 'No Poo' Shampoo

It is super hard… ready.. it is BAKING SODA!! No joke. I have a small plastic container that I fill up before shower time with less than ¼ cup baking soda… & I have long hair. Then after wetting my hair I slowly tip container into shower to mist some water into it to make a paste then massage into my scalp & hair.
You can use apple cider vinegar in your hair to act as a conditioner, but ONLY apply to hair/tips NOT scalp/roots. I did it for the first couple of times but I think It made my hair frizzy, so I stopped & now I only use baking soda.

**UPDATED** September 27th 2013

MY NEW FAVORITE NO-POO:
My whole family is in LOVE with this recipe.

- 1/3 Cup Castile Soap (I used Dr. Bronner's Peppermint)
- 1/3 Cup Water  (if you want it more liquid add more water)
- 2   TBSP Baking Soda
- 1   tsp    Melted Coconut Oil
** 5-15 drops of essential oils** optional* I used Tea Tree oil.

I combined mine into an old dispenser pump. Just shake it all together, then shake before each use. You can also use an old shampoo bottle.

Another Shampoo   (this was very watery... does not lather)

-2 Quarts  Boiling Water (I boiled water in my electric kettle & poured into a large pot)
-1/4 Cup   Baking Soda
-2 TBSP    Castile soap (I used Dr. Bronner's Peppermint)
-1 1/2 Tsp  Xanthan gum (found at Walmart for $.49 a packet in baking isle)
-10-15 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil (optional)

Step 1: Boil (or put boiling water) into a large pot. Slowly add Baking Soda. Yes, it WILL fizz.

Step 2: Let it sit for a few minutes then whisk in Xanthan gum. I whisked
1 tsp in, then after a bit of whisking added in the 1/2 tsp, it will look a little clumpy but keep whisking.

Step 3: Add in your castile soap.... Keep whisking.

Step 4: Add in Essential Oils, start off on the lower end, & gradually add a few more drops as you see fit. But a few drops go A LONG way.

Then let your mix cool. Once cool you can transfer to bottles.

This is what mine looked like when cooled.

Then we filled our containers....

Now, I save all glass/plastic bottles. I know one day I will be able to use them for something, right? It is also a great way to not have to go out & buy bottles.
The main bottle hubby is going to be using is an empty & thoroughly cleaned ketchup bottle (& hubby despises ketchup, but a well cleaned bottle will NOT smell like it). The tall jar is in-fact glass (a Vodka bottle) that I will be using as a 're-fill' container. The small container is just one that I had close by, because it made more then I was expecting. We are really trying to not use plastic in our home, BUT with a toddler & clumsy mama I just didn't think GLASS in the shower was a good idea....
